My current primary research interest is in computational Bayesian statistics, a new area which is now exploding in interest. I research both theoretical and applied aspects of Markov chain Monte Carlo and associated convergence, and the impact on mixture estimation and meta-analysis. I am also active in ranking and selection, statistical genetics, and novel methods for data mining, environmental modelling and medical research. I have a particular interest in public health as evidenced by ARC SPIRT and University Industry grants with local hospitals to develop statistical support for evidence-based medicine, an ARC Linkage with Shilu Tong from Public Health at QUT to model Ross River virus, teaching into postgraduate Public Health programs at QUT and Newcastle, and undertaking commissioned research with Queensland Health ($44000, 1998). I am associate editor for the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Statistics, and have just completed a three-year term as Associate Editor for Biometrics. I am an active reviewer for other journals and for postgraduate research theses from Australian and international institutions. I have been a member of Statistical Society of Australia since 1986, Treasurer of the Queensland Branch for four years and currently secretary of this branch, and a National Executive Member for the past three years. I am a member of the International Biometrics Society, the Royal Statistical Society, the IMS and the International Society for Bayesian Analysis. I inaugurated and am currently President of the Australasian Branch of ISBA. |
